The Detroit flag represents the city's history under French, British, and American rule, divided with four quadrants, and the city seal at the center. Its primary meaning is resilience, featuring Latin mottos—Speramus Meliora ("We hope for better things") and Resurget Cineribus ("It will rise from the ashes")—created after the 1805 fire that destroyed most of the city. The flag is a vintage style print, in full color, on a sand colored super soft T-Shirt.
